The federal government is investigating a large group of swimmers accused of harassing dolphins in Hawaii … and the alleged abuse is all on video.
Drone footage shows a large group of snorkelers swimming behind a pod of dolphins in Hōnaunau Bay off the Big Island.
The Hawaii Department of Lands and Natural Resources announced Tuesday that They are prosecuting 33 swimmers, federal officials say.
The state’s DLNR says they alert snorkelers to potential violations while they are still in the water. Uniformed officers then meet the snorkelers as they get back on land…with state and federal forces conducting a joint investigation.
In case you didn’t know It is against federal law to swim within 50 yards of spinner dolphins in Hawaii’s offshore waters.
The names of the 33 swimmers have not yet been released.
