Veteran actor Ashish Vidyarti got married for the second time yesterday. He tied the knot with fashion entrepreneur Rupali Baruah in Kolkata on Thursday and pictures from their intimate wedding went viral on social media. Ashish was seen in a white and gold mundu, while his wife Rupali wore a white Assamese saree with golden borders for the wedding. Ashish was previously married to Rajoshi Vidyarthi (Barua) aka Peelu Vidyarthi. Amidst some stories doing the rounds on the internet about her and Ashish, Rajoshi clarified that she and Ashish had filed for divorce in October last year and it was completely mutual. Now, a day after his wedding with Rupali, Ashish Vidyarti has shared a video clarifying that his relationship with his ex-wife had ended amicably.

In a video he posted on Instagram on Friday, Ashish Vidyarti is seen saying that each one of us comes from different backgrounds, education, profession, social strata, countries, etc., yet one thing is common. It’s that we all want to be happy. He then shared that Peelu and he were married 22 years ago and have a son, Arth, who is 22 now. Ashish shared that their marriage was wonderful, but somehow over the years, he and Peelu found that how they saw the future was a little different from each other.
Ashish said that while the differences could be resolved, it would be in a way that one of them would impose on the other, and this would take away the happiness. This is the reason why they decided to ‘separate but remain cordial’. He then shared why he wanted to get married again, adding, “I had a strong belief that I wanted to get married because I wanted to travel with someone. So, I literally put the word out into the universe. The time was 55 years old and I said I want to marry someone. And that’s how I met Rupali Baruah. We talked, we met a year ago and then we discovered something interesting about each other and We thought we could walk together as husband and wife and so Rupali and I got married.
Ashish Vidyarthi then clarified that he is not 60 years old as is being told. “She’s 50 and I’m 57, not 60, but age doesn’t matter my friend. Any one of us can be happy, no matter what age we are.” He then urged that people should respect everyone’s life choices.

Meanwhile, speaking to Hindustan Times, Rajoshi said, “I am very troubled by the way people are interpreting us. This is not right. Ashish never cheated me. Even if people are thinking that he only wanted to do second marriage. This is a completely false story.”
