A trip to China turns into a fun (and hilarious) journey of self-discovery in the new trailer for “Crazy Rich Asians,” co-writer Adele Lim’s upcoming “Joy Ride” directed by co-writer Adele Lim. It stars “Emily in Paris” actress Ashley Park and Sherry Cola as Audrey and Lolo’s best friends, who go on a business trip to China in hopes of meeting Audrey’s biological mother along the way. They are shattered when they encounter a drug dealer on the train dragging them and their friends, Lolo’s cousin Dead Eye (Sabrina Wu) and Audrey’s former roommate, Kat. Played by the latest Academy Award nominee, Stephanie Sue. into her most dangerous operations.
In one of the funniest scenes in the trailer, the friends try to get rid of all the pills as quickly as possible by eating them. “Just push, pull… I mean twist!” Lolo encourages a desperate Kat as she tries to remove the bag hidden in her butt. “It’s not pop-it. It’s my bastard!” she replied.
“Joy Ride” premiered to the world at the SXSW Festival in Austin on March 17. During an interview with Vanity Fair, Lim said her goal was to make a film around “The Hangover” and “Bridesmaids.” ” Fully focused on young Asian women. “There is a way that Asian American women are portrayed especially in TV and film — there is a lot of exoticism and fetish,” she explains. “We wanted to tell a story that was really inspired by our friendships and friends. and has a fussy and thirsty character. And it’s just one piece of work.”
