Eddie Izzard is accepting a new name — one British comedian said she wanted to have as a child.
When it comes to Matt Ford on “The Political Party” podcast on Tuesday. The British comedian opened up about how she identified herself, pronouns and her new name.
“There’s another name I’m going to include. which is Suzy which I wanted to be since I was 10,” says Izzard, who announced herself as transgender in 1985. “So I’m going to be Suzy Eddie Izzard. That’s how I roll so people can choose what they want. ”
The comedian said she would keep her public name as “Eddie Izzard”, which she decided to keep in order to be recognized.
Izzard said she started thinking about other names after announcing she was using her pronoun in 2020.
When Forde asked earlier in the podcast if people “guess” when it comes to the comedian’s pronouns, Izzard quipped, “I’m using my own pronouns wrong.”
The “Oceans Twelve” actress said she was considering changing pronouns until receiving her honorary degree from Swansea University in July 2019.
She recalled the ceremony when the chancellor called Izzard by pronoun and indicated her accomplishment.
“I just sat there with her pronouns talking about how I hit me,” she said, “and I told (the chancellor) after this – it worked for me. It feels amazing. and i say ‘Thanks for that.’”
“So I wrote a message saying, ‘I like you/her more. I don’t mind him/him. No one can make a mistake,” she added.
