Using footage from 1971 and 1972, photographer Bob Gruen (known for capturing images of rock artists such as John Lennon, The Rolling Stones and Elton John) chronicled the couple’s life and career while on tour between 1971 and 1972. Recorded the Tina Turner Blog, Gruen explained the importance of capturing Ike and Tina, saying, “It’s amazing, because it’s the only footage available that shows them how they are. Since we know them personally, We were filming more than just the show: We were filming them in airports and on planes and we went to California for a while. Ike and Tina were recording in the studio, Tina was at home making dinner for the kids. Ike was rehearsing the band. It shows them in a really intimate way.”
