Oprah Winfrey68, and the “Believe” singer, Sher76, impressed at the premiere of Sydney in Los Angeles on September 21. The talk show host looked dapper in a white button-down with sheer sleeves and a tiered floor-length skirt. She also wore her black hair in a stylish half-up-half-down style while on the red carpet. Oprah completed the ensemble with black shoes and diamond heart-shaped earrings. Cher also looked as chic as ever in monochrome black trousers for the evening. Adding edge to her look were Cher’s single lapel and black platform boots. There was, however, a pop of color with Cher’s shimmery red eyeshadow and rosy cheeks.
The two icons don’t come out for premieres too often, but Wednesday night was a very special occasion. Apple’s Original Movie, Sydneypremieres tonight just eight months after the actor and director’s death Sidney Poitier. Sydney is a documentary that takes a look at the legendary life of the late actor. Sidney is famous for being the first black actor to win the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1964. He starred in many Hollywood classics such as Guess who’s coming to dinner (1967), In the middle of the night (1967), To Sir, with love (1967), Lilies of the field (1963) and many others.
Sydney’s entire family was also present at the premiere. His daughter, who shares his name, Sydney Tamiya PoitierThe 48-year-old and her sisters attended the red carpet as a united front. Annika Poitier50, Beverly Poitier-Henderson70, Pamela Poitier68 and Sherry PoitierThe 66-year-olds looked amazing on the red carpet with their sister. Sidney had another daughter, Gina Poitierwho sadly passed away in 2018 at the age of 57. Oprah graciously appeared for a group photo with Sydney’s daughters, which had them all grinning from ear to ear.
Other celebrities came out to pay tribute to the late actor for the much-anticipated documentary. The Oprah Winfrey Show the presenter was seen in tears as she spoke about Sydney. “When you grow up in a community where all you know is mighty and good, and black, there’s no concept of race — that’s what defines Sidney Poitier. That’s the summary of it,” Oprah said. Towards the end of the trailer, Oprah and the late actor were seen sharing a kiss on the set of her talk show. “I love him so much,” she added through tears.
