David Beckham shows off his skills in a teaser trailer for the Disney+ documentary Save Our Squad


David Beckham was seen giving advice to a team of young footballers in a recently released teaser trailer for his upcoming Disney+ documentary Save Our Squad.

The former footballer, 47, will return to the pitches in east London where he played as a child and mentor a team struggling to survive in their league in the documentary.

The new trailer shows David showing off his football skills and imparting words of wisdom to the Westward Boys footballers to help them ‘bend like Beckham’.

The trailer began with David instructing the team on how to take the perfect free kick, saying: “You have to get under the ball as much as possible.”

The young footballers then erupted into thunderous cheers as the former midfielder sent it on target, showcasing his talent.

He said, “It wasn’t bad, I’m just saying it wasn’t bad!”

Speaking to the camera at the end of the trailer, David said he’s returned to his old position as he wants to help the struggling team “win.”

“I want to help them win, that’s why I came back,” he concluded.

A new image showed the Salford City co-owner supporting by putting his hand on the shoulder of one of the budding footballers.

He cut a dashing figure in a button-up navy denim jacket and black jeans as he sported a bushy beard and styled his brunette locks into a edgy style.

The heart-warming documentary, which premieres on November 9, will see David mentor Westward Boys – an ordinary team at the bottom of their league and facing relegation.

The former England star will take center stage in the show, which focuses on a group of inner-city youngsters from an east London team striving for sporting success.

Co-produced by Twenty Twenty and David’s production team Studio 99, the star will return to the same league he played in as a boy.

Working with the head coaches, the Inter Miami CF co-owner will try to turn the team’s fortunes around in the documentary Save Our Squad with David Beckham.

Earlier this year, it was reported that David had signed a seven-figure deal with the streaming service to star in the TV series.

Speaking about the show, David said: “It’s fantastic to be doing Save Our Squad with Twenty Twenty and shining a light on the type of grassroots football I experienced that gave me so much early in my life in the game. …

“I have been fortunate enough to have a long and successful playing career and now to have the opportunity to give back to these communities as a mentor is amazing…

“Developing and nurturing young talent is so important in gaming and it’s great to be working with Disney Plus on this project.”

It was announced in March that David would star in the Disney+ series and casting has already begun in Hackney Marshes, just two miles from Leytonstone – where the athlete grew up.

A source said The sun: “Disney+ approached David about creating the show and he was very taken with the idea because it really reflected his own experiences growing up. Also, he is still so committed to the young talent in the game.

“Disney thought David was the perfect mentor for the group. He came from nowhere to become one of the best footballers and most famous people in the world.

“It was a huge coup for Disney to bring David on board. For him, it’s about sharing his passion for the game and helping these youngsters as much as he can.

Save Our Squad with David Beckham will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on November 9.
