Ellen Pompeo is beginning its 19th season on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, debuting in early October, though she wants the show to change its approach to social issues.

The long-running series created by Shonda Rhimes has never in the past shrugged off hot-button issues.

Pompeo began, “I think if I had any wish, honestly, it would have been kind of less preachy about certain things in an episode.

“It’s like, we do an episode about it, see… Asian hate crimes is the one we did last season that was really moving forward. I guess I want to see things happen a little more subtly and over time.”
