Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) reacts to the Nashville school shooting on Monday. saying that nothing can be done
at the same time He also offered a perplexing and deafening answer when asked what he would do to protect young children. noting that he had his daughter homeschooled
Berchett spoke to reporters hours after the 28-year-old former student shot and killed six people at a private Christian school. Berchett argues that there is no solution to the ongoing and unique mass shootings in America.
“Three precious little children died. and I believe three adults And of course the shooter died as well,” he declared. “So it was a horrible, horrible situation. And we are not going to fix it.”
Burchett continued: “Criminals have to be criminals. And my father fought in World War II. fight in the pacific fight with japan And he told me, ‘Buddy,’ he said, ‘If someone wants to take you out. and don’t mind losing them. There’s not much you can do about it in life.’”
The Tennessee Congressman was then asked if Congress had any responsibility. Or not from this recent school shooting? Berchett claimed that he and other representatives It will only make matters worse.
“I don’t really see the role we can play. In addition to doing busy things Because of the situation,” he replied, “as I said. I don’t think criminals will stop guns, you know, you can print them out on a computer now, 3D printing, and actually, I don’t think you will. to stop gun violence.”
Rather than passing regulations or restrictions on firearms, Berchett suggests that a better solution would be to pray the murder is gone.
“I think you have to change people’s minds,” the congressman said. “You know, as a Christian. when we talk about this in church And I’ve said this many times. I think we really need a revival in this country.”
at one point A reporter asked GOP lawmakers, “What else should be done to keep people like your daughter safe in school?”
Berchett replied that it was not his personal matter.
“Um, we homeschooled you,” he replied with a shrug. “But you know? That was our decision. Some people don’t have that option and to be honest. Some people don’t need to. I mean they don’t have to. It only fits our needs better.”
