HBO Max Officially Rebrands To ‘Max’; How are they different?

Starting May 23, 2023, HBO Max will be rebranded as simply ‘Max’, with the service increasing its 4K content by eight times at launch.

Starting today, the vast majority of HBO Max subscribers will automatically update their app while others will be prompted to download the updated version. Instead of HBO Max, subscribers will have their items, avatars, past plans and profiles to stream on Max. People can also pre-register for Max on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

How Is ‘Max’ Different From HBO Max?

The content presentation of ‘Max’ looks almost identical but a series of adjustments have been made to address HBO Max’s engagement problems. Some of them include using Wi-Fi or a QR code to sign-in instead of typing in a password on your remote, home page collections including a mix of editorial curation, and removing unnecessary steps to play episodes. You can also see details like language options, credits, and rating information in text boxes instead of being buried at the bottom of the screen.

At launch, Max will offer a new Ultimate ad-free tier that will deliver up to four concurrent streams and up to 8x more episodes and movies in 4K UHD content, along with nearly a hundred offline downloads. Existing customers can use existing plan features for at least six months after launch.

All Warner Bros. movies released this year and going forward will be available in 4K UHD when they arrive on Max after their theatrical window.

Vision and Dolby Atmos will be available for select devices and content.
