There are only a handful of clubs in Hollywood that are reserved for EGOT winners. The acronym stands for Grand Slam wins of four major entertainment awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar. R and Tony means that an immense amount of talented individuals will showcase their excellence in television, recording, film and theatre.
At the Grammy Awards on Feb. 5, another performer joined the EGOT club: Viola Davis. Best from her 2022 audio version of “Finding Me” narrative, Davis is the third black woman to achieve EGOT status after Jennifer. Hudson and Whoopi Goldberg, and the fourth black man after Hudson Goldberg and John Legend.
Davis’s arrival came about eight months after Hudson joined the club. Back in June 2022, Hudson received a Tony for her work as a producer on the Broadway musical “A Strange Loop,” taking home the award for Best Musical. That gave Hudson, who had starred on Broadway in the revival of “The Color Purple,” her first Tony, the last award she needed for her EGOT. The third-youngest of EGOT’s, behind “Frozen” songwriter Robert Lopez, who are both 39 years old.
While some of the winners have spent their entire careers nailing all four corners of the entertainment industry, there are still some winners out there. Some people can beat EGOT very quickly (like Legend).
The 2023 Oscars weekend is here, read on to find out who received the special honor. (and first prize win), then check out all the Hollywood stars *close to* who will receive their own EGOT.
