How a simple selfie shot Neighbors actor Matty Wilson to stardom: ‘It was the most iconic moment of my career’
Former Neighbors star Matty Wilson has revealed how a selfie launched his career.
The 34-year-old actor was working as an intern when a friend mentioned there was a competition for an underwear ad – which eventually led to his successful career as a soap star and model.
After his mother took photos of him and sent them, he quickly found himself modeling for the AussieBum Underwear brand.

“The next day we got a call and said ‘Are you free next Monday?’, so we went to AussieBum headquarters and seven days after that we opened the Sunday paper and it had full coverage of me,” he said Nine Med.
After achieving success as a model, in 2015 he joined the Australian soap Neighbors as Aaron Brennan, making history when he married David Tanaka, played by actor Takaya Honda, in the first same-sex marriage on Australian television.
“It was the most iconic moment of my career,” he added.

“It was an incredibly important story for our characters and it was further enhanced when the Australian government allowed same-sex marriage.
“I think it happened the day before or the day after the episode aired. It was pure coincidence.
It comes after the former Neighbors star made a surprising admission about working on soaps.

in an interview with Yahoo last week he said: “I’ll probably get shot for this, but I’m not a big fan of soap operas.”
“It’s just too much drama in my opinion,” he added with a laugh.
“In one day, you cry, you scream, so much happens. It’s so dramatic!’
Matt is now a partner of WWF Australia, the wildlife conservation organization that helps raise awareness of endangered species
Matt also revealed he won’t be joining the cast of Home and Away anytime soon, despite growing up watching the Channel Seven soap.
While Aaron is looking for new acting opportunities, he is looking forward to the birth of his second child.
He and his wife Jessica married in 2019 and welcomed their first child in February 2021.
