Jeremy Renner is ready to talk about a snowplow accident that landed him in the hospital with serious injuries earlier this year.
The Marvel hero recently sat down with ABC News’ Diane Sawyer for her first interview. Ever since he was crushed by a snowplow near his Lake Tahoe home on New Year’s Day, ABC News released a theatrical trailer Wednesday for “Jeremy Renner: The Diane Sawyer Interview — A Story of Terror, Survival and Triumph
“I choose to survive,” Renner announced in the preview. “You can’t kill me. No way.”
The hour-long TV special will feature commentary from Renner’s family members, including an adult grandson who witnessed the accident.
Renner used a 14,000-pound PistenBully snowplow to pull his truck that his grandson drove out of the snow. At one point, the “Hawkeye” star got out of the car without setting the emergency parking brake. As the snowplow began to roll towards his nephew, Renner attempted to jump back inside to stop it. and suddenly pulled under one of the tracks
“I saw him in a pool of blood on his head,” Renner’s nephew tells Sawyer in the trailer, “don’t think he’s alive.”
While talking to Sawyer, the two-time Academy Award nominee confirmed that his right knee, left leg, left ankle, right collarbone, and a broken jaw in this accident The snowplow also fractured his ribs in 14 places, collapsed lungs and pierced his liver.
After the accident, Renner said he suspected “How’s my shape? Am I going to be the backbone and the brain like a science experiment?” Now, when he looked in the mirror, he saw a “lucky guy.”
Sawyer asked him if he remembered the immediate ordeal, Renner replied, “Oh all. I wake up every moment.” The “Hurt Locker” actor added that he would “do it again” if given the chance.
“Yes, I will do it again,” he repeated to a shocked Sawyer. “Because it goes to my grandson.”
“Jeremy Renner: The Diane Sawyer Interview — A Story of Terror, Survival and Triumph” premieres April 6 at 7 p.m. PST on ABC and will stream the next day on Hulu.
