Jackson Wang Recalls Being a JYP Entertainment Trainee: “Everybody Cried”

Jackson Wang has opened up about his “memorable” past experience as an idol apprentice under the South Korean music label JYP Entertainment.

The GOT7 singer-rapper was a recent guest on the popular Thai radio show Woody FM, where he recounts his time as an apprentice under JYP Entertainment in preparation for his debut with the K-pop group.

When asked to name a memorable incident with GOT7, Wang told show host Woody about the time before the start of GOT7, when all seven members were “back to JYP’s apprenticeship system”. “We were going through this project – the bicycle – where they finish different apprenticeships every week,” the Hong Kong-born musician reminisced.

“It was so memorable for me, because it’s so nerve-wracking, it’s like every week [felt] Like we were about to die,” Wang admitted. “But then we were the seven who made it to the final round. That journey was definitely another memorable chapter.” Wang then described the experience as “intense” for everyone involved. . “[I] cried a lot. Everyone cried,” he told Woody.

“I remember one time we were back in our dorm. The Korean members were like, ‘I’m so sorry if we don’t make it through this week because we’re in Korea, but you guys did everything. Left and come here. You guys have to go back to your hometown’, Wang said. “The moment I remember, I think it was in the kitchen. Everyone cried.”

The septet returned last month with their brand-new self-titled EP, featuring the title track ‘Nana’. The project marks GOT7’s first official return since departing JYP Entertainment in January 2021, after seven members signed with seven different agencies.

As for Wang, he previously revealed in an interview plans to release an as-yet-unannounced single this month, in anticipation of his wider “Magic Man” solo project due in September. Wang’s upcoming song will be her first since the release of “Blow” in March, which marked the first single from “Magic Man.”
