Indie rock icon delivers cosmic country song “Psychos” as she announces her fifth LP
we hurry To report on Jenny Lewis’s yacht-rock era, go back to 2021 when she debuted “Puppy and a Truck” complete with adorable steel pedals. But Lewis has moved to Nashville.
The singer-songwriter has released a new single, “Psychos,” the debut track of her upcoming album. Joy’AllOut June 9 via new record label Blue Note/Capitol Records, “No hard feelings,” she informally announces in a happy chorus. “How can I help you/it’s time for me to go?”
Joy’All It is Lewis’s fifth solo album, following the great album. onlinewhich she released in 2019. “I started writing some of these songs on the streets before the pandemic… And then put it aside as the world shuts down,” she said in a statement. “Then, from my home in Nashville in early 2021, I attended a week-long virtual songwriting workshop with some amazing artists. hosted by Beck The challenge was to write one song every day for seven days. with advice from Beck Instructions will be text like ‘Write a song with 1-4-5 chords,’ ‘Write a song with clichés,’ or ‘Write in free form.’ The first song I sent to the group was ‘Puppy and a Truck.’”
Lewis enlists Dave. Cobb produced the record and channeled Skeeter Davis on the album cover after discovering one of her outfits in a Nashville thrift store. And we broke most records with his incredible house band — Nate Smith, Brian Allen and Cobb on guitar and myself on acoustic guitar and vocals — live on the floor in a few weeks, Jess. Wolfe came back to the studio to sing the background on the record, then Greg Leisz and Jon Brion added steel pedals, B-Bender and Chamberlin guitars respectively. Back in LA.”
Lewis will be on tour this summer to support this record. The show started in early June. This was followed by an opening trek for Beck and Phoenix. She will embark on Ben Gibbard’s two anniversary tours Death Cab for Cutie and the Postal Service in the fall.
