Johnny Depp’s new girlfriend, Joel Rich, was once Meghan Markle’s lawyer.
The London-based lawyer represented Markle, 41, in the Duchess of Sussex’s case against Associated Newspapers, which owns the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday.
Markle sued the British tabloid company in October 2019 after it published a private letter she wrote to her estranged father Thomas Markle following his absence from her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018.
Meghan won the case in December 2021, with the court ruling that publishing the letter breached her privacy and was “unlawful”.
The Mail on Sunday claimed the Suits alum wrote the letter knowing it would be leaked, but judges found the correspondence was “personal, private and not a matter of legitimate public interest”.
“This is a victory not only for me, but for anyone who has ever been afraid to stand up for what is right,” Meghan said in a statement to Page Six at the time.
She added: “Tomorrow it could be you. These harmful practices do not happen once in a blue moon – they are a daily failure that divides us and we all deserve better.”
The Mail on Sunday was ordered to pay compensation and print a front-page apology to the former actress.
Rich was part of the Schillings Law Firm team that helped Megan win the court victory.
The lawyer also represented Depp, 59, in his defamation case against the Sun, which he lost in November 2020.
Page Six confirmed on Thursday that the Pirates of the Caribbean star and Rich are now dating, with a source revealing that the lawyer is married but separated.
She and her estranged husband share two children.
Rich was also by Depp’s side when the actor won his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard earlier this year.
Reps for Meghan and Rich did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
