Dublin control Returned last week with their fourth album. False Lankum through Rough Trade Records, and is yet another great example of their knack for bringing traditional Celts to ruin. They wrote the album in a seaside location in County Wexford, which inspired the album’s trend. Clash feature:
The sea represented a central character in what would become the ‘false Lankum’ nature to its extent. and the natural rhythm that comes with being surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the waves lapping against the shore. This added core and texture can be found in the album’s 12 track listings. This album contains new arrangements of long-standing original songs. But the added tracks, particularly ‘Netta Peurus’ and ‘Turn’, are beautiful additions. Takes the listener into the depths of their being before spitting them out into a world that has changed forever. Waiting for them to come back again
“Of course that’s what we want to do. But of course we didn’t fully plan in advance what it was going to be,” MacDiarmada explained when asked about the realistic properties of the project. “Even with the song list Everything was clear because it was Wuxi’s voice. It has a very natural inner flow in each song and memory. (three beats and melody without melody scattered throughout the album) breaks it down nicely. There was no rhythm and then it continued for the next two tracks and it was very out at sea regardless.”
