Celebrating 50 years of hip-hop
Presented by Coca-Cola, the 2023 Essence of Culture Festival returns to New Orleans for its 29th year as it celebrates 50 years of hip-hop, from hits to hits. The in-person and virtual experience explores and showcases how hip-hop has impacted all aspects of global culture through daytime programming and nightly performances.
The highlight of the Essence Festival of Culture is the evening’s live performances. Featuring some of Hip-Hop’s most acclaimed artists rocking the mic over the past 50 years, including lead actress Ms. Lauryn Hill, who will perform a special of 5 time Grammy Award winning album Lauryn Hill’s fall study Celebrating its 25th anniversary and three-time Grammy Award winner Megan Thee Stallion, Doug E. Fresh will host a special performance of hip-hop pioneers. And in honor of So So Def’s 30th anniversary, Grammy Award-winning record producer and founder Jermaine Dupree celebrates Hopping out of Atlanta, other artists taking the stage at the 2023 Essence Festival of Culture include Wizkid, Monica, Coco Jones and Kizz Daniel. Fans can look forward to laughing all night with DJs Deon Cole, Affion Crockett, Spice Adams. and Janelle James, including voices by DJ Spinderella, DJ Kid Capri and DJ Clark Kent.
