Actor Keith Allen hit back at his daughter, Lily Allen, when she claimed that she was unable to “channel her comedic gifts into a successful career”.
The pair has endured a rocky relationship and neither of them shy away from talking about it.
But things got heated after the “Smile” singer opened up about her estrangement to him in an interview last year.
Lily called her father a “self-sabotage” and took a jibe at her career in her 2018 memoir, “My Thoughts Are Accurate.”
Now Keith has reacted to his daughter’s choice of words.
“It’s true, yes,” said he Guardian, “I couldn’t channel anything. You could say that I wasted a lot of years. You could even say that I had a great time.
“I was in for a lot of things in the beginning. I did one of the first ‘Uff TV’ shows. I was one of the first actors in the Comedy Store.”
In her book, Lilly claimed that her father had suffered a “cocaine-induced heart attack” in Glastonbury at the age of 14.
But sharing that particular conversation with the world didn’t sit well with Keith, who later claimed his heart attack was inspired by “acute food poisoning.”
The singer has been open about her strained relationship with her father, previously mentioning in 2015 that her father “moved on me.”
“My dad walked in on me when I was four, I’m sick of it,” she wrote in a now-deleted tweet. “My dad was at latitude when I was in the spotlight and didn’t even come to see me. I have spent far more time hanging out with my dogs than I have spent with my father in my entire life.”
