Memorial Day weekend in the Hamptons started with a devastating fire Thursday evening.
The Montauk location of French restaurant Maison Cloz went up in flames on the day it was set to officially open for the summer, a representative for the restaurant confirmed to Page Six.
“We regret to announce that a fire broke out last night at the Maison Close Montauk at 435 East Lake Drive,” reps said in a statement Friday morning.
“The team is grateful that no one was hurt and for the assistance and bravery of the Montauk Fire Department. They are cooperating with authorities as they investigate the matter, and we have no further updates at this time,” the statement said. continued.
Thilau Probost, one of the restaurant’s owners, also shared the news via Instagram, saying, “I was the last person to leave the building. (Fifteen minutes later) I got a call that the maison close… is on fire. Some people saw what happened.
He vowed, “It’s not over. We’ll be back.”
Probost said he was more saddened to see “the[employees’]faces, to see their hard work go up in flames, than to see my money or material lost.”
He later removed the post and updated it with the restaurant’s official statement on the fire.
On social media the restaurant thanked “our friends and community for their support during this time.”
Matt Damon is also regularly seen there.
Maison Close was sure to be one of the newest hot spots in Montauk. Its SoHo flagship recently hosted jeweler Jennifer Fisher’s birthday bash, with notable guests like Savannah Guthrie, Jason Biggs, Stacy Bendet, Charlie Wolk and “Real Housewives of New York City” cast member Ubah Hassan.
The restaurant’s team said they look forward to bringing a “unique Maison Close experience to Montauk”.
The East Hampton Town Fire Department confirmed the fire on East Lake Drive to the Post but did not provide additional details Friday.
Fire Chief David Brown declined to comment, saying the fire was “still under investigation.”
