Earlier this week, she hit back at reports of a feud with leading actress Florence Pugh.

Olivia addressed the widely rumored split on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday, insisting she has “nothing but respect” for Florence, 26, despite being dogged by claims to the contrary.

She blasted Florence’s performance in the controversial film and suggested that being questioned about the feud was sexist because it’s not something her “fellow male directors respond to”.

The actress also doubled down on her claims she fired former leading man Shia LaBeouf, 36, insisting he gave her an “ultimatum” to choose between him and Florence and clarifying: “I chose Florence.”

When asked by Stephen if she was ‘feuding’ with Florence, Olivia played down rumors of tension between the pair as she gushed about the star’s ‘sensational’ performance in the film.

Wilde, who is dating co-star Harry Styles, has been at the center of speculation of a split with Florence on set, with her original co-star Shia also adding to the drama.

But now she has described Florence as a “superhero” and insisted she has “nothing against her for any reason”, doubling down on denying any controversy.

“She is sensational in this film. And it’s about her being brave enough to listen to the brave people who came before her, who everyone else ignored, and to trust her instincts,” Olivia said.

“And she is the one who is brave enough to break the system. She is a super hero. And Florence Pugh is as good at dramatic work as she is at action. There are real action sequences in the film. She has a run that I call her “Tom Cruise run.” It’s the most impressive run I’ve ever seen,” she added.

Appearing to respond to claims that Florence had scheduling conflicts for a press conference at the Venice Film Festival, Olivia said “there’s nothing cooler than a busy actress”.

“I have nothing but respect for Florence’s talent. She is fantastic. She is currently on the set of her movie Dune. There’s nothing cooler than a busy actress. I have nothing against her for any reason,” Olivia said.

Florence missed a press conference for the film because her flight would be landing too late to make it there, although she was seen nearby enjoying an Aperol Spritz while it was taking place.

Commenting on a video of Florence enjoying her cocktail at the time, Stephen said: “People pointed out that she had an Aperol Spritz during the press conference and didn’t show up.”

To which Olivia replied cryptically, “They pointed it out.”

She added, “I think what’s funny is, like, I don’t feel like my fellow male directors answer questions about their cast,” and was greeted with applause from the studio audience at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York .

“These are not questions for a director. They should be talking about the movie itself,” Stephen added, while admitting to giving in to his appetite by asking her about the rumours.

Olivia reportedly fell out with Florence during filming as the Black Widow star was said to be unhappy with claims that Olivia has “bonded” with Harry while engaged to Jason Sudeikis.

Olivia and Jason, 46, got engaged in 2012 and have children Otis, eight, and Daisy, five. They were believed to have split in November 2020, and Olivia hit the headlines with Harry in January 2021.

Although it was never confirmed that Olivia and Harry’s romance began while she was still engaged to Jason, Page Six reported that Florence fell out with Olivia over the relationship.

Then, in the run-up to the film’s premiere, Florence did little to no promotion for the film and was seen enjoying a cocktail nearby in Venice while missing a press conference for Don’t Worry, Honey.

The rumors intensified when Olivia suggested that Florence was in for a “wake-up call” in a leaked video shared by Shia, as he denied Wilde’s claim that he had been fired.

Shia was originally set to star in Don’t Worry Darling before Olivia replaced him with Harry, with Olivia claiming Shia’s trial was “not conducive to the ethos I require in my productions”.

But in response, Shia – who claims he pulled out “due to lack of rehearsal time” – shared an email he sent to the director and a video she allegedly sent him, proving he had pulled out of the film. instead of being fired.

Olivia said: “It’s a matter of semantics. It wasn’t going to move forward the way he wanted, so he had to go.
