Olivia Wilde denies Florence Pugh feud rumors while promoting Don’t Worry Darling

Olivia Wilde shot down rumors of a feud with Florence Pugh as she talked about the drama surrounding “Don’t Worry Honey” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old director, dressed casually chic in a white T-shirt and baggy black trousers, was asked by Stephen, 58, about her relationship with his leading lady Florence, 26.

“People say you had a feud with Florence Pugh. Is there something you mean by that?” Stephen asked her bluntly.

Olivia put it down to “another weird rumour” surrounding the film along with “spitgate” involving her boyfriend Harry Styles, 28, and Chris Pine, 42.

Steven referred to his notes, which included the question, “Is Harry Styles spitting on Chris Pine? Why or why not? Support your answer.

A laughing Olivia said: “He didn’t, but I think it’s a perfect example of people looking for drama anywhere they can.”

She flatly added: “Harry doesn’t actually spit on Chris,” while Stephen joked: “Only time will tell.”

“No, you really didn’t!” Olivia said with a laugh.

She said the video was an example of people seeing what they want to see and described it as “clickbait”.

“So there’s no tension between you and Florence Pugh?” Stephen followed up.

“I have nothing but respect for Florence’s talent. She is fantastic. She is currently on the sets of her film Dune. There’s nothing cooler than a busy actress. I have nothing against her for any reason,” Olivia said.

“People pointed out that she was drinking an Aperol Spritz during the press conference and didn’t show up,” Stephen said, referring to Florence missing a press conference earlier this month during the Venice International Film Festival.

“They did point it out,” Olivia agreed.

“I think what’s funny is like, I don’t feel like my fellow male directors answer questions about their cast,” Olivia said to applause from the studio audience at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York.

Steven agreed with her.

“These are not questions for a director. They have to talk about the film itself,” he said, admitting to giving in to his appetite by asking her about the rumours.

Earlier, Olivia gushed about her portrayal of Florence in the film.

“She is sensational in this film. And it’s about her being brave enough to listen to the brave people who came before her, who everyone else ignored, and to trust her instincts,” Olivia said.

“And she is the one who is brave enough to break the system. She is a super hero. And Florence Pugh is as good at dramatic work as she is at action. There are real action sequences in the film. She has a run that I call her “Tom Cruise run.” It’s the most impressive run I’ve ever seen,” she added.

Olivia also cleared the air about her one-time Don’t Worry Baby co-star Shia LaBeouf, 36, who she claims was let go from the film, even though the actor claims he backed out.

When asked if she fired Shia, Olivia said: “We had to replace Shia. He’s a fantastic actor, but it wasn’t going to work. When he gave me the ultimatum, you know, him or Florence, I chose Florence.

She added: “It was him feeling like he was pulling away, and I felt like we were moving on without him.”

When Stephen asked if he left in such a way that he thought he left and she thought he was fired, and they were both right, Olivia replied, “It’s a matter of semantics. It wasn’t going to move forward the way he wanted, so he had to go.

Olivia also revealed that her five-year-old daughter Daisy plays her daughter in the film.

She also has an eight-year-old son, Otis, with ex-fiancé Jason Sudeikis, 47.
