Olivia Wilde ends Spitgate.
In a preview clip for Wednesday night’s episode of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” the “Don’t Worry Baby” director defended boyfriend Harry Styles amid claims he spat at Chris Pine.
“You didn’t,” Wilde, 38, said with a laugh when Colbert asked.
“I think it’s a perfect example of people looking for drama wherever they can. Harry didn’t actually spit on Chris. He really didn’t!’
Earlier this month, many speculated that the Watermelon Sugar singer, 28, had spat at Pine, 42, after video which is said to have captured the moment at the Venice Film Festival has gone viral.
In the clip, the Grammy-winning singer went to take a seat next to Pine, who was sitting next to Wilde. However, when the singer-turned-actor bent down to take his seat, many said he spat at the actor, who froze in place before smiling slyly.
Although fans were convinced they saw drool coming out of Styles’ mouth, Pine’s reps quickly shut down the rumors.
“This is a ridiculous story – a complete fabrication and the result of a strange online illusion that is obviously fraudulent and allows for silly speculation,” the rep said People.
“Just to be clear, Harry Styles did it no spit on Chris Pine. There is only respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a clear attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.
“When I told him he was going to be caught…
Styles also addressed the rumors during a concert in New York a few days later.
“This is our tenth show at Madison Square Garden. It’s great, great, great to be back here,” he said at the start of his “Love on Tour: Madison Square Garden Is Harry’s House” performance.
“I just popped over to Venice to spit on Chris Pine, but don’t fear, we’re back!” he said as the crowd erupted in cheers.
“Spitgate” was just one of many rumors the “DWD” cast had to overcome this year.
Wilde took heat last month when she claimed she fired Shia LaBeouf from the film in an attempt to protect Florence Pugh — which a leaked video later contradicted.
Fans speculated that this could be one of the reasons Pugh and Wilde fell out.
However, others attributed Pugh’s cold demeanor to the on-set romance between Wilde and Styles.
