She was discussing the “weird rumours” swirling around the production when she mentioned “spitgate”, joking “which you might have heard of”.

She flatly added, “Harry’s not actually spitting on Chris,” while Colbert joked, “Only time will tell.”

“No, you really didn’t!” Wilde said with a laugh.

She also cleared the air about her one-time Don’t Worry Baby co-star Shia LaBeouf, who she claimed was fired from the film, even though the actor claims he backed out.

When asked if she fired Shia, Wilde said: “We had to replace Shia. He’s a fantastic actor, but it wasn’t going to work. When he gave me the ultimatum, you know, him or Florence, I chose Florence.

She added: “It was him feeling like he was pulling away, and I felt like we were moving on without him.”

When Colbert asked if he left in such a way that he thought he left and she thought he was fired, and they were both right, Wilde said, “It’s a matter of semantics. It wasn’t going to move forward the way he wanted, so he had to go.
