Queen’s funeral: Today host Alison Langdon returns to Sydney after falling asleep on camera

Shattered Today presenter Alison Langdon is back in Sydney after falling asleep on camera during marathon coverage of the Queen’s death in London

Today show host Alison Langdon looked exhausted on Thursday as she boarded Sydney Airport after a 24-hour flight from London.

Her return home followed two grueling weeks in which she traveled the world and worked grueling 14-hour days to cover the Queen’s death for Channel Nine.

She worked so hard that she fell asleep in front of the camera at one stage, although the moment luckily happened during a break in live reporting.

The 43-year-old mother-of-two looked very tired indeed as she leaned back on her trolley piled high with her suitcases.

Alison was dressed casually for the flight in slacks and a black turtleneck sweater as she carried her luggage through the busy airport.

She wrapped a leopard print scarf around her neck and slipped a matching rubber on her wrist and completed her look with a pair of sturdy boots.

Alison tucked her blonde locks behind her ears and let her natural beauty shine, going completely makeup-free.

Her tired appearance was in stark contrast to her Today co-star Karl Stefanovic, who had returned to Sydney a day earlier with a big smile on his face and was pushing a suitcase and carrying a Louis Vuitton bag.

Alison was presenting the Today show solo on Wednesday while her 48-year-old co-host traveled after the Queen’s funeral.

She began her live broadcast from Buckingham Palace at 8.30pm on Tuesday night (GMT) without Carl by her side and confirmed his absence about an hour later.

Referring to the unusually quiet scenes at the palace in London, Alison explained that Karl was on a flight home to Australia.

Karl had arrived in London on September 13 to cover the Queen’s death, and Alison was there a day earlier, presenting Today alongside Charles Croucher.

Nine appeared to have delayed its presenters’ flights back to Australia so its flagship news programs such as the Today show were not without both main presenters.

It comes after Alison nodded on set during a break from reporting on the Queen’s funeral on Monday after broadcasting 2pm from Buckingham Palace.

Exhausted, she rolled up a jacket to use as a pillow as she napped on the lap of Today executive producer Will Hutchinson, who snapped a photo for Instagram.

Alison reposted the photo to her own Instagram Stories on Tuesday, along with the caption: “2pm. Everything is fine.”
