Rebekah Vardy took a thin-eyed dig at Coleen Rooney on her Instagram Story on Friday with a joke about her chasing a ‘pesky pigeon’.

Footballer Jamie Vardy’s wife of 40 years quipped that her sleeping dog may have been chasing insects like birds – after once saying that quarreling with Colleen was like ‘arguing with a pigeon’.

It comes after 36-year-old WAG Colleen won her Vagatha Christie libel battle last week – leaving Rebekah with a million pounds to pay.

Sharing a photo of her dog, Rebekah wrote: ‘Thought you were chasing those weird pigeons off Ralphie, why are pugs so lazy.’

Rebekah made comments to Colleen about pigeons when she accused him of leaking stories to the press in 2019.

At the time he said: ‘It would be like arguing with a dove. You can tell it you’re right and it’s wrong, but it’s still going in your hair.’

This remark reappeared during his recent bitter High Court trial.

Colleen and Rebekah are gearing up for one last dramatic high court showdown that will pay off the multi-million-pound bill for their expensive “Vagatha Christie” libel battle.

Sources close to Colleen – who won the case last week – told The Mail on Sunday she will fight to make sure Rebekah pays the full amount, which is estimated to be up to £3 million.

Typically the winning party will still have to pay about 30 percent of the cost.

But Colleen’s team claimed the judge’s ruling that Becky sold stories about her to The Sun newspaper meant it was “unthinkable” that she would not be paid the full amount.

Mrs Justice Steyn ruled on Friday that Becky and her agent Carolyn Watts had leaked stories about Coleen, the wife of former England captain Wayne.

Rebekah sued her former friend for defamation over a now famous social media post in which Colleen described setting up a ‘sting operation’ by posting fake stories to selected followers on her personal Instagram account only to reveal that Who was leaking stories about him to The Sun.

The ‘big reveal’ post ended in October 2019: ‘It’s… Rebekah Vardy’s account.’

After Rebekah takes legal action, Colleen offers her ‘drop hands’, implying that they will both leave, paying their respective costs. He also suggested that they make a charity donation.

But Rebekah refuses, leading to a costly trial in the High Court. Now, after her victory, Colleen wants her opponent to pay.

A source close to Colleen said, ‘Colleen didn’t want this to happen. She knew that the money would be spent on many other things, but she would not let Rebekah pay the full cost.

‘She tried to settle it quickly but Rebekah didn’t have it. And if you look at the framework of the judgment, it is inconceivable that a judge would not agree that she would pay them in full. Let us not forget, this action was taken by Rebekah and she lost brilliantly.

During a preliminary hearing in March last year, the cost was estimated at £1.3 million.

Now, after a two-week high court hearing of the case, reports have claimed the total could be £3 million.

Rebekah’s barrister, Hugh Tomlinson QC, reportedly charges £10,000 a day, while her opposite number, David Sherborne, charges around £8,000.

There is speculation that Rebekah and her husband, Leicester City striker Jamie, may have to sell their Portuguese villa to pay the legal bill.
