Rylan Clark has revealed he was rushed to hospital twice after his heart stopped last year.

The 33-year-old TV presenter admitted she endured a terrifying ordeal during her split from husband Dan Neill, 43.

Speaking at the launch of his new book Ten: The Decade That Changed My Future, he said: “I didn’t just get mentally ill, I got physically ill.”

Following the breakdown of his six-year marriage, the TV darling took five months off the limelight due to his failing health.

He previously claimed he had dropped to just nine stone, prompting him to be hospitalized for “safety reasons” after refusing food.

They told the audience at London’s Royal Festival Hall: “Twice last year I ended up in the back of an ambulance because my heart gave out.”

After the examination at the hospital, he was given an injection that helped his heart to start beating more regularly again.

Saying, “I just remember the shot and all of a sudden this feeling from the middle of your body, in both directions, it almost takes you over and you just stop and my heart stops.”

“There are only seven faces and this bright light just staring at me. And then I took a breath. And they were like, “He’s in a normal rhythm.”

“I thought, ‘What the hell is going on?’

He also said family members were convinced he was only suffering from a broken heart, but he was sure it was more serious.

“I knew it wasn’t right. It turned out that my heart needed to be restarted. I remember putting the resus on and having all these pads with all these wires and not understanding what it was.

He continued: “It wasn’t until afterwards that I said, ‘What were my pads for?’ And they said, ‘If you hadn’t taken a breath… because we would have had to restart you electrically.’

“You don’t even think about it when you’re there. So I didn’t just get mentally ill, I got physically ill.’

It comes after Rylan revealed his body had “shut down” and that his mum Linda was convinced he had suffered a stroke during his health problems.

The host admitted he couldn’t even speak and had a “slurred” speech while taking time off from work.

Now appearing on Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place Podcast, the TV personality said, “My body completely shut down. I wouldn’t eat. I went through a stage where I couldn’t even talk, which for some people might be quite comfortable.

“My speech was just slurred. My mom thought I was having a stroke. My body just went. I came down to 9 and I’m six foot four.

An avid Eurovision fan, he has been a commentator for the semi-finals since 2018, but his notable absence during the 2021 contest has caused alarm among friends.

Rylan continued: “Two days before I took part in Eurovision, everyone knew that when I wasn’t at Eurovision, something was wrong.

“If I had, I might not have gone so fast. And when I say rapid decline, it felt like minutes. I felt like I had the stroke and I was stopping.”

The former Celebrity Big Brother housemate, who claims he hasn’t stopped working since appearing on The X Factor in 2012, admitted he “needs” a break.

He said: “It was difficult, but on reflection, yes, I should have stopped. Maybe it was a 10 year merger. I haven’t stopped since the day I got on the X Factor.

“Nothing stopped.” I don’t regret stopping. I feel that if I tried to move on, maybe I could handle things better from a personal perspective. I don’t regret stopping.
