Sam Neill has reassured fans that he is “alive and fine” and free from cancer. After his recent stage 3 lymphoma diagnosis caused a panic on social media.
In an Instagram post, the “Jurassic Park” star clarified that his cancer “It has been at peace for eight months now. Which feels really good.” But headlines about Neil’s battle with cancer created widespread concern for the 75-year-old actor.
“My news seems to be all the rage right now. And it’s like, ‘Cancer! cancer! Cancer!’ Which is a bit boring because as you can see, I’m… alive and kicking,” Neil wrote on Instagram on Saturday.
“Don’t worry too much about ‘All that’ because I’m fine, OK!”
Neil also shared a video expressing the same sentiments in good measure.
on friday The two-time Emmy nominee revealed in an interview with The Guardian that he was diagnosed with angio-immunoblastic T-cell lymphoma. Stage 3, which is blood cancer. Shortly after he suffered a swollen gland while promoting the 2022 film “Jurassic World Dominion,” Neil managed to manage the disease with chemotherapy drugs that he would continue to take monthly for the rest of his life. According to The Guardian,
“Those dark times brought a lot of light, you know, and made me thankful every day and so grateful for all my friends,” he told The Guardian. “Just glad to be alive”
“I’m not afraid to die,” he added. “But it would annoy me. Because I need another ten or two decades … I already have a sweet little grandchild. I want to see them grow.”
A day after The Guardian’s story came out. Neil regrets that the resulting news cycle focuses so much on his health issues when the “main thing” he wants to announce is his upcoming memoir. “Did I ever tell you this?” although he insisted it wasn’t. But the “Peaky Blinders” actor kept a diary while he was receiving treatment and “suddenly couldn’t go to work.”
“I was very nervous. Obviously a first time author,” Neil said Saturday on Instagram.
“The tone of the book is astonishing. I never thought I would have a career as an actor. Not to mention the on-screen actors. But that’s what happened and I’m so grateful when I look back on this life. And that’s what this book is all about. I hope you enjoy it.”
Neil’s “Have I Ever Told You This?” is scheduled for release on Thursday. The cast also follows on from the “Apples Never Fall” limited series starring him and Annette Bening, which begins filming in a week.
“I’m very happy to be back at work,” Neil said.
