Burnett talks about her complex character and her experience being part of TV’s record-breaking crime show.
So far, Muncy has been a bit of a mystery. She is cynical and sometimes she seems to want to get into trouble. Who is SVU’s newest detective?
Molly Burnett: I would say it’s true. Her mother died when she was young. Oh my god yes! In real life, I’m a nerd. Muncy is much cooler than me. And she is definitely not afraid to fight like me (laugh) Pretending to be cool in front of the camera is fun! But I FaceTiming my dad on set and I show him my badge and my gun and I’m like, “look at dad” and I pull out the gun and the holster comes out too. He shook his head and said. “You play a cool cop. How can this person be?”(laugh) I went “I really don’t know!” But Mariska really helped me find Muncie and possess my powers. It was really a great trip. So far I’m grateful to have participated.
You’ve done a number of crime shows since your soapy days, among them. CSI: NY, Major Crime, Longmireand the latest with drug dramas queen of the south

Isn’t this your first Dick Wolf adventure?
I actually did two things: FBI: Most Wanted and a few months later Chicago PD So I had to dip my toes in the Dick Wolf pool before I got to hope here.
How do you feel about getting a recurring role? Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The longest scripted live-action prime-time show ever?
My mother died when I was young. And I know this is one of her favorites. So the fact that I exist SVU I feel like she played a part in that. really great thing What happened was that host David (Graziano) had me wear the Serenity Prayer necklace that my real-life brother and I both wore on screen. Our mother is watching us. When they brought Muncy’s brother to the show, I asked if he was okay with Teddy wearing the necklace, and he said, “Okay!” Teddy and Grace. Muncie both wore necklaces for their mothers. and vice versa I wore it for my mom. And I thought those were fun little Easter eggs.
