It was first released on March 7, 1983. hurt Featuring three classic top five hits “Mad World,” “Change” and “Pale Shelter,” the album peaked at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart in its second week of release and was certified. Gold by BPI in three weeks It stayed on the charts for over a year and reached Platinum status in early 1985. The album also reached the Top 40 in several countries, including Canada, Germany and Australia. hurt It’s an incredibly influential album in America. You can feel the album’s influence on the likes of The Weeknd, Nine Inch Nails, Arcade Fire, Smashing Pumpkins and hits like Michael Andrews & Gary Jules’ “Mad World” from the cult film Donnie Darko.
hurtWritten solely by band member Roland Orzabal. It’s a loose concept album that focuses on issues of childhood psychological trauma and Arthur Janov’s Primal Scream therapy, the theory that gave the band its name. despite the dark content But the album was a huge commercial success and continued to resonate with younger audiences.
Tears For Fears co-founder Curt Smith said last year that “We’ve only noticed in the last couple of years when we’ve played Bonnaroo that it’s obviously a much younger festival. We estimate it could reach a thousand if we’re lucky. and the tent was pitched beyond the tent to the rear. I looked in front of the audience. And they were all much younger than me. And they all sang every song of The Hurting. It was shocking to me. when you look back it makes sense Because this album was written when we were this age. These lyrics resonated with young audiences. But that’s when I noticed the change when we started playing festivals and noticed that there was a younger audience than we got in America.”
Musically, the album is informed by Roland & Curt’s shared love. in the light by Talking Heads, David Bowie’s Scary Monsters and Super Creepsof David Byrne and Brian Eno My life in the ghost bushand in particular Peter Gabriel’s untitled third album, known as melt.
“It was an album that was very in keeping with my personality,” Orzabal recalls. “I’m not sure if we’ve made a more emotional album since then. But I would like to think that we have reached a higher musical peak.”
The new Half-Speed Remaster of hurt It was performed by acclaimed audio engineer Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios, using half-speed manipulation techniques that create superior vinyl cuts, Dolby Atmos mixing, which remixes the album into spatial 3D sound.
