The time for magic has finally come! as fantasy-action epic Magician Returns, a heavy duty weighs on the broad shoulders of Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia. Finally reunited with his adopted daughter Ciri (Freya Allen), the supernaturally enhanced demon hunter is now determined to protect the young woman.
And the list of people who want him dead is as long as Geralt’s flowing platinum locks, as the popular series — based on the witcher The video game and the novel by Andrzej Sapkowski—the first part of season 3 begins. (Volume 2 of Season 3 premieres Thursday, July 27).
Geralt faces scheming wizards, angry elves, an entire kingdom of humans the elves want to destroy and, of course, legions of demons that have invaded the world due to a cosmic event that opened a portal between universes. . Thankfully, our hero has his magical lady love, Yennefer (Anya Shalotra), on hand to help Giri tap into his newly developing powers, though they may want to take his training a little slowly.
After all, Ciri’s ancestor prophesied that someone of their lineage would trigger the apocalypse, and dark magic really does play havoc with this crew.
But even if Ciri isn’t ending the world, we know something big is looming: after this season, Cavill is set to leave the series and hand the role of Geralt over to Liam Hemsworth for Season 4. As if killing every character, creature and straight isn’t hard enough!
