Byron, Georgia – On Friday, July 15, 2022, Byron police officers have a look at an SUV that was approaching downtown GA Hwy 42. The caller said that the vehicle was moving in the other lane and was almost affecting the oncoming traffic. When the vehicle reached the intersection of Hwy 42 and Hwy 49 witnesses stopped the vehicle inside. Byron police officers arrived at the scene and attempted to speak to the driver and she was uncooperative and would not speak to officers or respond to orders. Officers put stop sticks under her tires so that if she drives they can remove the tires. Several minutes later the driver in a car stopped behind him and then proceeded, hitting a Byron police officer and a Byron police car. The driver backed up again and drove north on Hwy 49 with a flat tire off the stop sticks, hitting two witnesses and another Byron police car. Officers attempted to block the car and it returned to a third Byron police car and then proceeded to hit a second Byron police car, causing serious damage to the car.
