As viewers saw in yesterday’s episode. general hospitalELIZABETH WEBBER (Rebecca Herbst) receives devastating news concerning her friend and fellow nurse Epiphany Johnson (played by Sonya Eddy, who died in December at the age of 55). When the General Hospital family gathered to remember Epiphany on Wednesday’s episode. They’ll be joined on screen by Eddy’s real-life friend: actress Yvette Nicole Brown (community).
TV Insider chatted with Brown specifically about how she and Eddy became friends. and why did she accept GH‘ an invitation to honor her friend, who plays the loving and no-nonsense nurse.
How did you and Sonya become friends?
Yvette Nicole Brown: We started entering the industry at the same time. We will meet at the audition. We were friends when we took the ABC pilot exam. headstarring Kevin Hart in 2003. I Kept Her She became a member of the family. There were four of us — Sonya, Octavia Spencer, Carla Renata and myself. We called ourselves the “Four Divas” in our “Salad Years.” We supported each other. We put flags on different sectors of the industry. We have been good friends for 20 years.
Actors competing for the same role aren’t always the best blueprint for friendship. It’s rare.
when i enter this business I decided early on that I would not do this without kindness or decency. Luckily, the people I decided to ride with felt the same way. There are times when we call each other and say, “I got a call for this role. It was perfect for all of us.” That wasn’t unusual to me. It breaks my heart that so many people aren’t like that. I love helping people reach their destiny.
how did you come GH For this tribute, coming to the matter?
Octavia, Carla and I talked online about how the loss of Sonya affected us Mark Teschner (GHcasting director) contacted my agent and said, “We’re putting together something that will be a tribute to both Sonya and Epiphany. We’re wondering if Yvette will come down for it? I don’t know what the chapter will be. but i want to do this I got the script a few days before we shot this episode.
GH May write that Epiphany graduated from medical school. Follow the dream of becoming a doctor. And go work at Mercy Hospital or write about Sonya’s departure on the show. Thoughts?
What I love about them letting Epiphany through is that we get to see the residents of Port Charles paying their respects to her. Plus seeing these great actors paying homage to Sonya, I love the idea of Epiphany saving lives at Mercy Hospital as a doctor. but I think (what GH is doing) is the perfect way to honor her.
How did you start watching dramas?
my grandma for sure I think that’s everyone’s story. I watched it. young and restless, general hospitaland another world. Later, I fell in love with bold and beautiful. I feel like I’ve watched at least one drama a year. The soap I chose is general hospitalI look back to when Luke (Anthony Gearry) and Laura (Genie Francis) first met… I was boyfriend and girlfriend when Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) came to Port Charles. I’ve been watching all my life
The thing about soaps is that there are some actors who will make soaps for decades. You come back in and say “There are people that I remember” when I was on set. I saw Jackie Seaman (Bobby), also Genie Francis and Tristan Rogers (Scorpio). Sonya for this
Without going too deep into how your character came to know Epiphany, how do you separate that from your real-life friendship with her?
This is very difficult. It’s hard for me as an actor to play. (Since the relationship is different) I show respect to this person. but I can’t give Sonya the same weight I give Sonya. The hardest part was not crying throughout the whole movie. I have to find a way to do it. I came to the point (My character) feels emotional. But I try to hold it back until then
This is hard for you I thought it was a laxative too?
Yes. It is. I’m still scared. I know that if I look in a certain direction (During the taping) I’m going out. I’m trying to concentrate. I’m about to lose it The idea that I was on GH under these circumstances It’s tragic because I lost a dear friend. It’s hard to get excited about the sign outside. (The studio wrote that But I’m 100 percent sure Sonya is in heaven and says, “Girl, you better go enjoy your day!” This show she really did.
What can you share about Sonya that people might not know?
Sonya is one of the real people I know. If she loves you, you know, if she doesn’t…she can still work with you. She is not pleased with fools. She has a heart as big as the moon. she is honest She understands the industry in a way most people don’t. She guided things with grace. She gives good advice with a listening ear. She’s the first person I go to if something bothers me. I know she won’t judge me and she will help me through it.
Useful for grieving fans when the show is mourning a late actor.
Everyone did a great job. They were talking about Epiphany, but they were also talking about Sonya. It was a beautiful tribute to Epiphany and Sonya at the same time.
Why is it important for you to take part in this tribute to Sonya?
I’ve known Sonya for 20 years. I want people to know that Epiphany has Sonya’s heart. general hospital Really get to know her. You don’t meet Sonya without loving her.
